TIGH-NA-TRAIGH, Argyll
Location: near Tarbert

Tigh-Na-Traigh Photos

Tigh-na-Traigh (tye na tray), or "Cottage by the Shore," is a part of the 70-acre Achaglachgach Estate, located near the small fishing port of Tarbert on the Kintyre peninsula on the west coast of Scotland. Built in the 1600s as a farmer's croft house, this charmingly simple whitewashed cottage is a stone's throw from West Loch Tarbert and has restful views out over the water.

The corner of Argyll in which Tigh-na-Traigh is located has been largely unspoiled by the passage of time. Original sleepy stone houses nestle into hillsides, and around every corner is a breathtaking view of mountains, lochs and woodland. The traditional country pursuits of golf, fishing and walking are readily available, and there are numerous coves and sandy beaches to explore, islands and fishing ports to visit, and a choice of local pubs and restaurants to enjoy.

Guests are also welcome to walk the shore of the estate and to use the estate's rowboat for offshore explorations.

Beds and Baths: Sleeps four in one double and one twin. One bathroom with tub and hand-held shower.

Living Space: Living room with multifuel stove and color TV. Dining area in one corner of living room, with table seating four. The property truly has the feel of a "cottage by the shore," with the interior painted white throughout and accented with colorful furnishings.

Outdoors: Small enclosed yard with barbecue. The cottage sits on a very quiet country road at the edge of the 70-acre Achaglachgach Estate. On the other side of the road is a field that slopes down to West Loch Tarbert. Guests may walk the shore and use the estate's rowboat.

Essentials: Very pleasant kitchen with dishwasher and microwave. TV. Washer and dryer. Electric heaters throughout cottage. Coals, logs and peat available for purchase.

Details: Children welcome. Property is all on one floor and partially handicapped-accessible. Smoking permitted.
