This comfortable ground-floor flat, within a Listed House dating to 1636, offers spacious and tastefully furnished accommodations complementing the style of the building, with polished wooden floors, vaulted ceilings, stone archways, grand fireplaces and some interesting antiques. Enclosed in four acres of secluded grounds but still within the city of Edinburgh, this is a family-friendly property for all seasons and all ages. Children can explore the grounds while adults relax and appreciate the beauty of their surroundings and teenagers pick up a bus at the front gate to visit the city center, which is a 10-minute ride away.
This flat truly offers the best of both worlds – country living within minutes of the center of Edinburgh and its many cultural attractions.
Beds and Baths: Sleeps five comfortably in one double and one triple bedroom (with double bed and single canopy bed). Each bedroom has an ensuite bath, one of which has a half-size tub with hand-held shower, while the other has a large tub and regular shower. In addition, there is a double sofabed for extra guests in the living room, plus a crib and a small child-size bed.
Living Space: Cheerful living room with grand fireplace with woodburning stove, as well as a piano and color TV. Dining area in one corner of living room, with table seating eight. Alcove with writing desk off living room. Galley kitchen with small refrigerator and dishwasher. Utility room with washer and clothes-drying rack.
Outdoors: The kitchen door opens onto a large flower and herb garden with extensive lawns beyond. A wrought-iron table and chairs outside the kitchen door provide a sunny spot for morning coffee. The four-acre grounds are covered with many varieties of trees and shrubs, including rhododendron and laurel, sycamore, Scots pine, chestnuts and silver birches. A lovely white gazebo can be glimpsed through the trees in one corner of the property.
Details: Children welcome. Partially handicapped-accessible (flat is all on one floor with a few steps at entry – wheelchair ramps can be provided). Smoking not permitted.
