The house is also within easy reach of the many interesting sights of central Scotland, including historic Stirling and the cultural capital of Edinburgh. It is set at the gateway to the Highlands, with such diverse places as Glencoe, the Cairngorms and Oban all within reach for visitors who want to see more of Scotland's beauty.

Nearby:

  • The Glenturret Distillery, 10 minutes from the house, is the oldest distillery in Scotland and is deemed by many to have one of the best visitors' centers and most interesting tours.
  • Innerpeffray Library in Crieff is the oldest public library in Scotland, with a wonderful collection of antiquarian books.
  • Drummond Castle Gardens displays flowers and shrubs in a formal Italian setting against the backdrop of the castle.
  • Scone Palace in Perth, the ancient crowning place of Scottish kings, is 30 minutes. Stirling Castle and the National Wallace Monument in Stirling are 30 minutes.
  • The Pitlochry Festival Theatre, which runs from May to early October, is about 45 minutes away.
  • Hiking trails lead directly from the house over surrounding hills and fields, through pastures and farms.
  • Many other walks abound, from gentle strolls like Lady Mary's Walk and the Crieff Nature Trail, to longer hikes such as the Glen Lednock Circular Walk and the 3,200-foot climb to the summit of Ben Vorlich.
  • Numerous picturesque Highland golf courses are within easy driving distance, including Muthill, St. Fillans, Comrie, Killin, Dunkeld and three in Crieff itself. A Perthshire Highlands Golf Ticket can be purchased for about $75 and allows five days' worth of play on a choice of five courses.
  • Perthshire contains a wealth of salmon, sea trout and brown trout waters. The main runs of salmon in the River Tay and River Earn occur January to April and late August to October. The period from mid-May to the end of August is normally the time of year when rod catches are lower and therefore the price charged for some beats is considerably reduced. The best fishing periods for salmon are spring and autumn, and for sea trout May and June.
