Location:
near Tarbert

Achaglachgach Photos
Achaglachgach House, formerly a hunting lodge, is the main house on a 70-acre estate on the Kintyre peninsula in southwest Scotland. (Achaglachgach, pronounced ahka-glahka, means “place of the wild duck.”) The house sits in an elevated position with superb views overlooking West Loch Tarbert toward the Hills of Kintyre and the tops of the Isle of Arran. The house is extremely comfortable and has great character, including magnificent fireplaces and many other original features. Terraced lawns surround the house on two sides, with stone steps leading down to paths through azalea and rhododendron walks. Achaglachgach is a very friendly, welcoming house with fine Victorian features and old furniture, including some antiques.
The corner of Argyll in which the house is located has been largely unspoiled by the passage of time. Original sleepy stone houses nestle into hillsides, and around every corner is a breathtaking view of mountains, lochs and woodland.
The traditional country pursuits of golf, fishing and walking are readily available, and there are numerous coves and sandy beaches to explore, islands and fishing ports to visit, and a choice of local pubs and restaurants to enjoy.
Guests are also welcome to walk the shore of the estate and to use the estate’s rowboat for offshore explorations. Trout fishing is available on the Torinturk burn, a sea pool, and Lochan Liath.
