PIGEONNIER DU CHATEAU, Dordogne
Location: Conne-de-Labarde

Pigeonnier du Chateau Photos

The tree-lined entrance to Château Peyrelevade is the first hint that something very special awaits during your stay at the Pigeonnier du Château. Built in the 14th century and occupied by the English during the Hundred Years War, the château is found in the heart of Périgord. The Pigeonnier du Château, adjacent to and sharing a courtyard with Château Peyrelevade, is a combination of the converted pigeonnier and bakery of the estate. It has been carefully renovated and restored and provides two unique living areas.

The pigeonnier is three stories and includes three bedrooms, living/dining area, fully equipped kitchen, and 1-1/2 baths. A separate entrance to the two-story converted bakery leads to a living room/games room, a double bedroom with ensuite bath, and access to a shaded eating area, sunbathing terrace, croquet lawn, and sunny swimming pool.

The Pigeonnier du Château provides a very comfortable base from which to explore the lovely Dordogne region. Walk out the back gate of the château grounds and stroll a mile to the farming hamlet of Conne de Labarde, searching along the way for some of the six varieties of wild orchids that grow here. Or bike to Bouniagues and pick up something tempting at the boulangerie for a picnic lunch.

A short drive brings you to the medieval village of Issigeac to explore the winding streets and perhaps shop at the Sunday morning market. Or tour one of the Bergerac vineyards and discover why the French love this wine so much.

After each of these excursions and discoveries, you will return down the tree-lined entrance to the château knowing that that first hint of something special has once again been confirmed.
